I entered the amateur music production sphere in 2017, started discovering tools and adding them to my toolbox, but you listen to records from twenty years before and they sound huge, more powerful than what is possible (factual statement) with the plugins and applications popular now. And the paid plugin market takes advantage of people who experience this thought progression, and charge you for sample packs to sound closer to what you hear on older records, but the damning truth is that there's more to the puzzle, or the soup (its more of a soup, making art). Sure, the sounds themselves are a big part of it, but the interface is another massive element. Something you don't have with a GUI-based thing like a drum VST.
